Ninety minutes by train from the port of Hook van Holland is Haarlem. Quintessentially Dutch, Haarlem has a wonderful atmosphere where you can café hop and watch the world cycle by, or explore the museums and great selection of shops, bars and restaurants. We enjoyed divine pastries on Turfmarkt and bitterballen under the shuttered sails of Molen De Adriaan. Take a break from meandering the cobbled streets to enjoy a beer at Jopenkerk or a boat tour on the Spaarne. If the high life gets too much, hire a bike or hop on a train to the coast at Zandfoort.
